Little surprises and lifes ups and downs

Hi everyone,

Long time no see! After those two weeks I know, life just happens, you can’t really plan it through perfectly, even if you would sometimes really like that. (Deep thoughts over here today..) But I promise, most of this post (sadly not all of it this time) will be positive, so let me tell you, what I’ve been up to.

Oh but before I get on with that, I quickly wanted to mention, that the photos in this blog post come from very different sources this time. Most of them are from my or my friends phones, so that explains the not so perfect quality of some of the shots. Then there are also pictures from my dad in it: www.markus-schneeberger.com , some from the photobox we took photos at : www.fotoboox.at and also some from the photographers from www.cityfoto.at

It all started off on Friday the 30th of November, where I hopped on a plane to fly to Austria. I had planned this before I actually came to Ireland, because I knew my brother would have his Debütantenball this year and since I am so passionate about dancing myself and hadn’t seen my little brother dancing before, I just couldn’t miss it. But this was obviously not the only reason for my visit, because I hadn’t seen my boyfriend for over 3 months and you can probably imagine, that finally seeing him again wasn’t less exciting for me. And of course seeing my family and some of my very best friends again was very important as well.

When I landed in Vienna and I was on the train to Linz, my hometown, it felt super strange. Suddenly everyone spoke German again and the scariest thing was, that everyone understood me as well. I also realized that to the question ” Ist da noch frei?” the suitable answer isn’t “Yeah sure” anymore. I felt like in a movie when I got off the train and my friend Pia came running towards me. We went to have dinner and I can’t tell you how nice it was having her back talking about whatever came to our minds and also being back home. As we went out of the restaurant it even had started to snow and everything was white already. And the craziest thing was, that I even wished for that when I was in Ireland and it happened on the first day back already.

And just when I thought it couldn’t be more perfect I found myself in my boyfriends arms, crying happy tears, about seeing him and also a little about the fact, that I hadn’t broken a leg on my slippy run to the dance school. I thought it would feel strange being with all my loved ones again, but I honestly coudn’t believe how normal everything was. I stayed with my boyfriend and his family for all Saturday which I really enjoyed and was very thankful for, because in that way I still was able to keep it a surprise for Jakob. And then the big moment was finally here and let me tell you I never thought it would be that nice. Jakob and I both were very emotional, which I absolutely knew would happen for me, but I never thought that this would be his reaction as well.

The ball afterwards was brilliant. My brother did an amazing performance with his lovely dancing partner, I met some more friends, sat, laughed and danced with my family, watched my boyfriend perform as well and just had a very joyful time alltogether.

The next two days were planned to be the last two days in Austria for this short visit, so I made the most out of it. I had a full chill day at Aquapulco, which is an indoor-outdoor pool thing with hot water pools, with my boyfriend which was amazing and just what you need after a night, dancing and also drinking a lot. Monday started off with a super yummie brunch with my friend Kathi, where we just talked and talked to somehow catch up with what each one of us had been up to. Then I went to my great grandma to say hi and to just be with her for a bit, because I knew she was weaker the last few days and singing with her and listening to her still rhyming old rhyms from her youth was just very special to me. And oh god, I am soooo thankful that I went to see her that day.

In the afternoon my family and I went out for a walk with my dog in the snow, which turned out to be more of a rainy-walk, but no worries we made it look like, we were in a winterwonderland on all the photos. And finally we went out for dinner that night, which to me was a very nice finish to all the happy events I had with all my loved ones.

On Tuesday morning I packed my bags and sayed good bye to everyone, which was so much harder then I thought, hopped on the train and was on my way back, when I got the phonecall from my mum, that my great grandmother (at the proud age of 95 years) sadly passed away that morning. Of course I hopped off and took the next train back to Linz, to stay with my family. I won’t tell you much about that now, but I am just so greatful I was able to spend this time with my family. We cried together, told beautiful and funny stories about my Urli and my brother and I helped wherever we could. We all agreed that it would have been exactly what my Urli had wanted, for us to just be together.

This picture was taken this April of me and my Urli.:

My hostparents were so so kind, to make it possible for me to stay one week longer until the funeral. And let me tell you, I really used this time. I used it to spend conciously more time with the people I love the most and even though it was a sad time for me and my family, I had really beautiful and also really happy moments too in those days.

I enjoyed Linz’s beauty at Christmas time by visiting my favourite Christmas markets with my friend Chrisi. This was one of our favourite things to do together at Christmas time, when we were 5 or 6.

I spent more time with my boyfriend, doing things we really enjoy doing together, for example going to another ball, where we danced so much, I had swollen feet for the next two days.

And of course I spent a lot of time with my family, which I was very happy about and also very thankful for.

At the end I obviously had to say good bye again. And you might think, with a lot of practice it gets easier, that’s how it works with everything right? Well for me it definitly didn’t. But the fact that I will see them all pretty soon again, surely was soothing.

Now I am back in Ireland. Back with my lovely host family, who were so understanding and supportive in this time. Back with my amazing friends here, who all were the absolute kindest as well. And back in my AuPair life, which I certainly do love as well.

That’s it again for now. Thank you for reading until here and if you are one of the people mentioned in this post, a very special thanks to you, I really do love you a lot. I hope you know that.

See you soon,

Lena xx

Lena, love, your latest blog is so touching! I´m deeply grateful to have you with us, the last few days. And I´m sure, it was not just by chance, you used the possibility to say “hallo” and “good bye” the same time to your Urli!

And now: enjoy the next days, including christmas and New Years Eve to the full!!!! :* Mum
